In the XXX, the Quin Farara building housed a Christmas speciality store on one side and “Little Joe” De Freitas’s rum shop on the corner. The first Farara arrived in Antigua from Madeira in about 1918 to work for a relative and then opened his own liquor store in 1924. Like many of the liquor stores run by Portuguese, it began with rum aging and blending and then moved on to retail.
